Train 18 is India’s first, one type of self-driven engine-less semi-fast train. Moreover, it is the first train to be engineered and manufactured entirely in India. It was planned and worked by Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai under the Indian government’s Make in India Initiative over a range of year and a half.
A month ago, the Railway Board executive Ashwini Lohani uncovered “Train 18” and said that it is built by the Integral Coach Factory which is seen as the replacement of Shatabdi Express.
The entirely air-conditioned train, operated by a self-propulsion module, can run at a speed of up to 160 km/h also comes with technological features for improved fast acceleration. The primary set of trains will operate between New Delhi and Bhopal, replacing the Delhi–Bhopal Shatabdi Express, which has been running for almost thirty years. This will decrease the travel time along the course by 15 per cent, or even higher once the tracks are suitably implemented for the unit.
This train composed of as many as 16 coaches including the driving coach with around 44 seats and 78 seats installed in trailer coaches. Two handicapped friendly toilets have likewise been introduced in the train and there is a space for childcare alongside exceptional washroom units.
Also, CCTV cameras on both the sides of the driving vehicle have been introduced with the end purpose to assist the driver with monitoring the movement of travelers on the platform before shutting the doors and hitting the tracks.
Testing was set to initiate alongside an area of track among Bareilly and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh on November 17, yet the area was therefore changed to the stretch of rail among Moradabad and Rampur because of unspecified issues with the underlying segment of track.
The introduction of Train 18 is a significant step towards modernisation of the Railways and gives a boost to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Take a sneak peek into this revolutionary train that is set to redefine train travel in India. pic.twitter.com/9JpuxWpDW1
