Stan Lee, founder of Marvel Comics, died at the age of 95. He may not be with us anymore but his legacy and his super heroes will always do so. Stan is always going to be alive just the way his characters are.
Lee, creator of dozens of comic superheroes, including X-Men, Spider man, Fantastic Four, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and the Black Panther. These characters not only stayed to the books but have been adapted into hugely popular, budget- busting films.
The Lee brought a whole new exciting stories, super humans with powers and tons of action to world that in the today is not only enjoyed among the kids but also the adults too.
When the world grieves at the loss of Lee, we brought you some of the facts you probably didn’t know about the late creator of your favorite character.
1. STAN LEE WAS NOT HIS REAL NAME
Born on December 28, 1922 as Stanley Martin Lieber was the name on his birth certificate, but liked to be called with his pen-name Stan Lee which he later got is legal as he wanted to save his full name for the novels he wanted to publish. Stan Lee has already become synonym with the comic books and various media outlets.
2. CAPTAIN AMERICA: FIRST BIG BREAK
Lee started his career in early teens. In the early time during his job in Timely Comics, Lee got the opportunity to write a two-page Captain America comic. Wrote under the pen name Stan Lee and titled it “Captain America Foils the Traitor’s Revenge”. His comic book debut will come in 1941.
3. LEE EVEN SERVED THE ARMY
Stan Lee entered the US Army in 1942 and served during World War II in the Signal Corps, repairing telegraph poles and other communication devices later transferred to training film department and worked as ‘playwright’. During his period of tenure, he also worked with Dr. Seuss writing training films.
4. LEE THOUGHT IRON MAN WOULD BE FAILURE
It may be hard to grasp that the world would hate the Iron Man. The superhero is among the most popular characters but the creator wasn’t convinced, that audience would appreciate the multi-millionaire weapon maker. However, the Iron Man movie franchise grossed more than $2.5 billion worldwide so far.
5. ALMOST QUIT THE COMIC WORLD
Stan Lee nearly quit the comic world when he was asked to use simpler words during a time when comic was seen childish. With DC comic rivalry Goodman asked Lee to create a new superhero team. Planning for the Fantastic Four to be his last comic creation, in act of revolt he now created characters which dealt with real world problems so that the reader could relate to them.
6. LEE AND HIS CAMEOS
Everybody knows how much Lee loved to make cameo appearances in his character’s films. He appeared in most of the Marvel movies of the recent era, making him the king of cameo’s. He had a special clause added to his contract where he specified that he will appear on screen in any movie based on his characters.
7. PRINTER TURNED THE HULK GREEN
As per Lee, the character was supposed to be gray, but the printer had a hard time keeping color consistent. ‘So out an issue #2, the Hulk turned green.’
8. LEE AND HIS WIFE
Lee on the second page of his memoir revealed, “My whole adult life, I’ve never been to a barber, Joanie always cuts my hairs.” He also told once, during an argument, Joanie destroyed the typewriter he used to write the first issues for characters including Spider-Man and The Fantastic Four.”
