Dhubri-Phulbari: India’s new longest river-bridge

By November 14, 2018 No Comments

The government of India is developing another bridge between the states of Assam and Meghalaya — India’s longest stream connect at 19.3 kilometres, proposed over the Brahmaputra river.

This four-lane overpass is designed in such a way that it will shorten the route between the towns of Dhubri and Phulbari by 203 kilometres, and moreover save travellers more than two hours of their journey. The project is probably going to be finished by 2026-27.

People as of now have extremely restricted choices to travel among Assam and Meghalaya. They either need to take small watercraft, which take almost more than two hours to reach their destination or else they need to take a long route of 100 kilometres before the Naranarayan bridge. This proposed venture plans to decrease the journey time to just 20 minutes and could be an immense help for local people as it would improve availability within the two states.

At present, Dhola and Sadiya in Assam is the longest bridge in India which was introduced by PM Modi a year ago and is 9.15 kilometres long. Curiously, The Dhola-Sadiya bridge cut 5 hours of driving time for people going from Assam to Roing in Arunachal Pradesh.

Much like the Dhola Sadiya Bridge, the overpass connecting Dhubri and Phulbari could be designed to also deal with heavy armoured vehicles for troop preparation whenever required.

Below is the list of the longest bridge above water:
